Tracking Vehicles - The Answer to Recovering Your Stolen Vehicle Quickly
Tracking vehicles after they have been stolen is resulting in their fast recovery, with less chance of serious damage (dismantling or accident). The UK has the worst vehicle theft problem in Europe - one car stolen every minute - over 20% of all recorded crimes.
Tracking vehicles - protection 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Thieves are stealing vehicles to order. Even though vehicle security has improved dramatically, modern day alarms and immobilisers provide only temporary protection. 53% of new vehicles stolen, are taken using the victims own keys. In these cases alarms and immobilisers are redundant and vehicle tracking systems come into their own.
Vehicle tracking systems utilise small electronic homing devices that are covertly hidden on a vehicle, making them virtually impossible for thieves to discover. In most cases there are no transmitting aerials to give them away. When activated locally or remotely these homing devices transmit a silent signal which can be located by direction finding computers (using street level computer mapping of UK and Europe). This allows very accurate vehicle tracking and locating. If the vehicle is moving the map will automatically follow the vehicle, displaying its speed and direction (depending on system installed).
A number of these vehicle tracking homing transmitters have their own back-up power supply in case of battery disconnection or failure. Some tracking systems allow additional security features such as activation of vehicle lights, horn and door locks controlled either by the driver or the monitoring station.
There are a number of different systems available for tracking vehicles and accurately mapping their immediate location - some are even installed in police cars and helicopters. Other systems transmit to: 24 hour control rooms, your own office computers, laptops or mobile phones (normally through phones SMS facility).
Vehicle tracking systems using radio wave technology allows the vehicle to be located anywhere - in a garage, in the back of a truck, in a steel container or underground.
There are no safe hiding places for stolen vehicles
Some vehicle tracking systems use a dual technology approach, utilising direction finding radio and satellite navigation (using the gps system).
Geo fencing is an option available on some vehicle tracking systems, this allows a user to activate a geo fence around their vehicle in a number of ways:
1) a movement fence - if the vehicle goes outside this area a signal is sent to user or monitoring station
2) an outer area fence is defined on the mapping software. If the vehicle leaves this area a signal is sent to user or monitoring station.
3) an inner area fence is defined on the mapping software. If the vehicle enters this area a signal is sent to user or monitoring station.
An in car data cable is available with some tracking systems that enables the unit to be connected to a laptop, which can then be used as an in car navigation system.
Vehicle tracking systems are also very useful in a breakdown or accident situation, when you find yourself stranded at night in the middle of nowhere with no recognisable reference points to guide the recovery services to you. Especially useful for women on their own or with young chidren.
Some insurance companies insist that a vehicle tracking system is installed on some expensive vehicles before they will consider insuring it. In some cases the reduction in premiums will pay for the installation.
